Cook’s Kitchen – One Round (NELC: 03/02/2013)
It was March 2nd, my twenty-fourth birthday.
I crawled out of bed, my body slightly aching from the previous night’s festivities. I thought to myself, “Man, I’m getting old” before heading to the bathroom to prepare for the day. I accomplished my morning rituals and then waited for Adam Van Fleet to arrive at my house. Once Adam was there, I went to pick up the other member of “Team Birthday Weekend”, Nick Patnode. After he was in the car, we found 81S and began our trip to Vestal, NY from Syracuse. Continue reading Cook’s Kitchen – One Round (NELC: 03/02/2013)
Cook’s Kitchen – Storming into Edison (02/10/2013): Tenth Place
Friday was miserable. There is simply no other way to put it. With storm Nemo on the horizon, when I awoke for work I knew it was going to be a tough day. Since when does society name snowstorms? If they continue this, I just hope the next one is Dory. Anyway, I left work an hour early hoping to get a slight jump on the storm, it was all in vein. The snow was already coming down hard as I waited for Dan Walton and Eric LaFramboise to pick me up at my house. After I was in the car, we swung a couple blocks over to pick up Nick Patnode and we were our way. Continue reading Cook’s Kitchen – Storming into Edison (02/10/2013): Tenth Place
“The Cutting Room Floor: The February NELC – Exposed”
If history has taught us anything it’s that we should learn from our past. This Saturday’s NELC is shaping up to be one of the greatest NELC events of all time, and for good reason: the meta right now is in a serious shift with hungry competitors making the monthly trek from all over for a shot at the title. This dynamic convergence of talent and unpredictability creates a dangerous set of circumstances for anyone wishing to compete in this event which is only weeks removed from the previous installation. Today I’d like to look into what you can expect from this epic event on Saturday and why it will mean more than just winning games of Magic.

Cook’s Kitchen: Storm Hands III
I apologize for the lack of article last week. I was planning on writing a Grand Prix analysis from Vegas while at CES, sometimes life just gets in the way. Although, you can look forward to multiple articles next week! Continue reading Cook’s Kitchen: Storm Hands III
Cook’s Kitchen – Storming to Jupiter pt. VII (NELC – 12/15/2012)
For a long time in Syracuse weekly events I had been playing a different deck every week trying to dodge metagame hate, as well as play the best deck possible for the event. This all changed when my work schedule changed for the holidays, I get home too late to have time to spend looking at deck lists to potentially build. This has left me playing my own deck, The EPIC Storm, at almost every Legacy weekly event ever since the change. What I’ve noticed is that the current metagame in Syracuse is very weak to storm combo at the moment. While everyone has been trying to grind out Deathrite Shaman mirrors, I’ve been putting fourteen Goblins into play instead.

My Past in Frames: Memories of the December NELC by Si Ning Li
The deck can kill on turn one. It can kill through multiple copies of Force of Will. It can win through Counterbalance. It can get hit with discard turn one and two and win on turn three. It can bring horror to your opponent’s face when they realize that they’re going to die before their hate cards become relevant. It can beat Thalia, Guardian of Thraben, it can beat Mindbreak Trap, and it can win on a mulligan to 4. Continue reading My Past in Frames: Memories of the December NELC by Si Ning Li
Cook’s Kitchen: Storm Hands II
I know it hasn’t been that long since the last installment of Storm Hands, but it’s back! The list has changed since the previous article, mainly two different sideboard storm engines! This Storm Hands is going to concentrate on how to play all three sideboard engines properly.
