Cook’s Kitchen – Grixis Control: A Metagame Choice

I play a different Legacy deck in every local event based on what decks have been popular and recent metagame trends. For those of you who don’t know, a metagame is basically, what other people are playing at the moment. Metagames come in different sample sizes, from large-scale events, to tiny hometown eight-man events. Being able to predict the metagame and accurately depict how to beat the most played decks is the secret to success. It’s much easier to do on a small-scale level than at a large event such as a Grand Prix. Recently, I’ve been playing in two small town Legacy events a week. A New Type 2- Pat Chapin’s Grixis Control at MTG World Championships

If you don’t already know, Thursday saw the start of the Magic: The Gathering World Championships in San Francisco.  Day 1 opened with 6 rounds of Standard, and the excitement started early.  Two of the main stories from Thursday were Conley Wood’s undefeated run through the bracket (as I write this he’s 12-1, after scooping to fellow Channel Fireball-er Paulo Vitor Dama De Rosa), and Pat “The Innovator” Chapin’s Grixis Control deck.
