Cook’s Kitchen – A Sideboarding Guide for The EPIC Storm

Cook’s Kitchen – A Sideboarding Guide for The EPIC Storm

Too often I find myself stopping to watch someone else playing The EPIC Storm (T.E.S) at an event. I stand behind them, figure out the game state, watch their line of play, and then compare it to what I would do… they draw for their turn and it’s Xantid Swarm against RUG Delver or BUG Delver. At this point I usually have little faith left in the pilot and walk away. But to be completely fair, sideboards were initially built for the individual and an expectation of what the field of decks would look like. Cook’s Kitchen – SCG Invitational: Atlanta

Cook’s Kitchen – SCG Invitational: Atlanta

Well, neither Chipper Jones nor Ludacris were at the gate when Dan Walton, Nick Patnode and I arrived in Atlanta late Thursday night. I say late because it was ten minutes after the last rail-train had left the airport, our only option was a $90 taxi ride to our hotel. After giving the gentleman from the taxi service too much money, we settled in to our hotel. Continue reading Cook’s Kitchen – SCG Invitational: Atlanta

The Cutting Room Floor: The Reserved List

“The Cutting Room Floor: The Reserved List”

One of Magic’s longest standing points of debate is that of the “Reserved List,” or a list of cards that Wizards has sealed in what is the equivalent of a logical ‘vault’ never to be reprinted in any form of any kind again. This list dates back to the game’s origins with cards from Alpha going all the way through Urza’s Destiny. The large part of the debate that has persisted over the years deals in large part to the rising value of Eternal Magic’s most prolific staples that continue to do nothing but rise in value as the years pass us by. I’d like to use this platform as a means to address some issues that a lot of folks have with the Reserved List, the yearning for its abolishment and the fallout as a result of the current pace of Eternal Magic’s condition. Cook’s Kitchen – Storm Hands V

Cook’s Kitchen – Storm Hands V

It’s been about a month since the last Storm Hands! But we’re back! In this installment we’re going to focus on beating a rough match-up, UWr Miracles. The match-up is very difficult because of Counterbalance, Force of Will, Rest in Peace and sometimes Terminus but it’s not unwinnable. Each one of these cards can shut down one of the EPIC Storm’s strategies. The goal of this battle is to make them have the wrong answer at the right time.
