Tales of the Squire – A Weekend of Tournaments

Tales of the Squire – A Weekend of Tournaments

Hello all readers out there who have decided to well, read this. I know I have not written in a while and honestly do not plan to get back onto a regular writing schedule. However I do want to entrance you all with some information from this past weekend. For those of you who were unaware, Jupiter held a $500 FNM and then a Duel for Duals on Saturday. I played in both and cashed in on both with some unusual deck choices and just wanted to share. So let’s begin! Continue reading Tales of the Squire – A Weekend of Tournaments

Tales of the Squire – Chasing Avacyn

As most of you know its spoilers season. Cards are being spoiled once again and everyone is blowing up over Temporal Mastery because “it is just a reprinted Time Walk!” Well if it is a reprint of Time Walk then why are they not in the hundreds of dollars? I do not want to go real in depth about this card because everyone has already done that. People realize than Temporal Mastery will be attempted to be played in Legacy and that is just fine. If it becomes a problem, people will just start dealing with it by playing cards like Thought Scour and Predict.  So far I am not finding any of the other cards to be something I would want to play in Legacy but I definitely think standard is getting some good cards. I just want to talk about some of those cards now so lets do it! Continue reading Tales of the Squire – Chasing Avacyn

Tales of the Squire – Top 5’s

Now a lot of people have cards they just love and cards they just hate with a burning passion.  I am in the same category as those people and I just wanted to let you lovely readers know what my top 5 favorite and most hated cards are. I hope some of you will post your top 5 loved or hated cards in the comments below. Let’s get right into this.

Tales of the Squire – On the Road

Wow people, it has been a while since I have last written an article and that is mainly because I have not been playing all that much Magic.  If you haven’t realized all ready, Standard is not really for me and there are no weekly Legacy events that I can attend. I have mainly been focusing on my Legacy game, but the deck I am currently playing is very solid and I wouldn’t be able to write an article on the few changes I want to make to the deck.  So instead of actually playing Magic, I have been on the road with the guys from Jupiter Games working at different Grand Prix.  So for this article I am going to just recap some of the fun I have been having on the road and some of the things that have been pretty lame.  I don’t remember every single detail but hopefully I can cover enough to make this article one that you all enjoy. There is some actual Magic talk too, not just random adventures, even though it was a super fun time. So let’s get right into this. Continue reading Tales of the Squire – On the Road

Tales of the Squire – NELC Action and GP Trial Fun

If any of you lovely readers follow Jupiter Games at all you know that a few weekends ago (Feb 11th and 12th) was a time for Legacy.  Jupiter held two events, one being their monthly Northeast Legacy Championship (NELC) Qualifier, and the other being a Grand Prix Indy Trial.  I knew I wanted to play in both and did exactly that. I’m not going to give you a tournament report because I want to focus more on the deck I played on Sunday and just give you a brief talk about the actual tournament play. So lets’ get right into it! Continue reading Tales of the Squire – NELC Action and GP Trial Fun

Tales of the Squire- Dark Ascension Launch

Ever since I have been writing this article people have all came up to me and asked what I was going to write about in the upcoming weeks and my answer to them is always a shrug and an “I don’t know.”  With this I have had plenty of suggestions of things I can write about but some of them are just not that great, while others are just plain weird. One of my friends suggested I write about Pants. That was his suggestion; nothing else was added to the suggestions, simply “Pants”. Needless to say, I have not written about pants, until now! Just kidding, I don’t even know how I could write a legitimate article about pants, so I just won’t.  Luckily this a few weekends ago at Dark Ascension release time I was given something to write about.  My friend Ed was kind enough to sponsor me in the sealed event at the lovely Jupiter Games and let’s just say that my sealed pool was pretty damn crazy.  To be perfectly honest my deck could have had a bit better of a curve, but still it did exactly what I needed it to do.  Continue reading Tales of the Squire- Dark Ascension Launch

Tales of the Squire – Check Out My Gorgon

I realize Dark Ascension comes out next week, but none of the other DKA cards strike me as worthy to write about in an article.  Now that I actually have my own Commander deck, I want to go back a couple weeks and talk about Commander. Last time I just talked about playing against the Horde Deck and I used Ryan McKinney’s Olivia Valdaren deck to fight off zombies. Well now I have my own deck so I actually want to share it. I have only been playing this list for about two weeks so every card may not be the top Commander card it should be.  Continue reading Tales of the Squire – Check Out My Gorgon
