Cook’s Kitchen – Bryant Cook, the Planeswalker
A year ago in Atlanta, Dan Walton, Carl Dillahay and myself attended the Star City Games invitational. During the event Carl lost a round and Dan made a joke about how if Carl was a Planeswalker, how his first ability would be “Plus one: Flip target table.” I asked Dan what my Planeswalker would be, he created my favorite currently non-existing Magic: the Gathering card. Cook’s Kitchen – SCG Invitational: Atlanta
Well, neither Chipper Jones nor Ludacris were at the gate when Dan Walton, Nick Patnode and I arrived in Atlanta late Thursday night. I say late because it was ten minutes after the last rail-train had left the airport, our only option was a $90 taxi ride to our hotel. After giving the gentleman from the taxi service too much money, we settled in to our hotel. Continue reading Cook’s Kitchen – SCG Invitational: Atlanta
Cook’s Kitchen – Preparing for Atlanta
I imagine Chipper Jones and Ludacris will be waiting for me at the end of my terminal when I arrive in Atlanta on Thursday night. Possibly Rick Grimes too if he’s not too busy wrecking the undead. Hopefully Rick will shoot Chipper for me for the years of suffering he’s created for Mets fans. How cool would it be to be in Atlanta when the outbreak finally happens? These are the things I think about. I daydream a lot. This is probably caused by years of watching too many episodes of Scrubs. Continue reading Cook’s Kitchen – Preparing for Atlanta
Cook’s Kitchen – Storm Hands V
It’s been about a month since the last Storm Hands! But we’re back! In this installment we’re going to focus on beating a rough match-up, UWr Miracles. The match-up is very difficult because of Counterbalance, Force of Will, Rest in Peace and sometimes Terminus but it’s not unwinnable. Each one of these cards can shut down one of the EPIC Storm’s strategies. The goal of this battle is to make them have the wrong answer at the right time. Cook’s Kitchen – Storming into Washington (03/17/2013): First Place
I had been practicing counting to twenty for weeks leading up to Star City Games: Washington, DC. I felt that I had lost some of my skills, I ran the deck in the weekly local events for three weeks where I normally opt to play something else and then piloted it to a first place finish at another area tournament. I was feeling pretty good again and was anxious to see how I could perform in a slightly larger pond down where the President lives. I sleeved up the beautiful storm deck in new perfects and Ultra Pros for the big day.
I was ready. Continue reading Cook’s Kitchen – Storming into Washington (03/17/2013): First Place
Cook’s Kitchen – Legacy: A Format Analysis
It’s been a long time since we’ve had a completely healthy format for Legacy, but I believe we’re finally back at the pinnacle. Continue reading Cook’s Kitchen – Legacy: A Format Analysis
Cook’s Kitchen – One Round (NELC: 03/02/2013)
It was March 2nd, my twenty-fourth birthday.
I crawled out of bed, my body slightly aching from the previous night’s festivities. I thought to myself, “Man, I’m getting old” before heading to the bathroom to prepare for the day. I accomplished my morning rituals and then waited for Adam Van Fleet to arrive at my house. Once Adam was there, I went to pick up the other member of “Team Birthday Weekend”, Nick Patnode. After he was in the car, we found 81S and began our trip to Vestal, NY from Syracuse. Continue reading Cook’s Kitchen – One Round (NELC: 03/02/2013)
